PACKRAFTING, UT

Recap

On this trip, participants got an introduction into river travel on a packraft. Participants spent the bulk of their time on the river, taking a leisurely paddle through Utah’s Labyrinth Canyon. Each night they camped on a beach and spent the evening exploring side canyons, going on day hikes, and having conversations with each other around the fire.

Participants’ Key Takeaways

  • WONDER is an encounter with "The Real" in a world that is so viciously fake. It reminded me who we all are in God's eyes, and it set me on fire.

  • I learned how to appreciate God’s creation and sit in silence, which is something I rarely have the opportunity to do as a student.

  • It was really great to not be on our phones for the week. In retrospect, it greatly contributed to my ability to be present with the people and experiences around me.

  • I really liked how, as discussed, participants were only informed of the essentials and we had to have an element of trust and unknown while going into, and even signing up for the trip.

  • Everyone [on the trip] was so knowledgeable in a diverse set of fields and it was exciting to grow in wisdom with them.

  • I also took away the true value of silence and focusing on just BEING rather than focusing on productivity.

  • WONDER brought me back into reality. It brought me back to beauty. WONDER allowed me to find beauty in the Creation, in my brothers and sisters, and in God Himself, who came to meet us in all of it, most fully in the Sacraments.

  • Thinking about my Creator, I was reminded of how deeply loved I am to be able to experience the beauty of Creation on a week long trip, with no obligations other than being present with the reality in front of me.
