Recap

The Wind River Range in Central Wyoming stands as a renowned backpacking haven, celebrated for its towering peaks, pristine high alpine lakes and remarkable stargazing experiences. During this journey, incoming freshmen from the Transformational Leaders Program at the University of Notre Dame dedicated a week to hiking each day, venturing deep into untouched and remote wilderness. Along the way, they further nurtured their sense of wonder, inspired by the awe-inspiring vistas that surrounded them.

Participants’ Key Takeaways

  • The people I had the experience with was for sure the most meaningful part.

  • I think that it was making new friendships with new people, giving me a strong base for when I come to school. I now know some people on campus and have less worries about finding some people I know right away.

  • Being present.

  • Experience was greater than I could have ever imagined.

  • I loved getting to know everyone and laughing and having fun despite the difficult weather. It really helped me open up to others and feel a stronger bond with other students.

  • Learning about other people.

  • It really enjoyed making new friends before going on campus. I feel way more comfortable going on to campus with some people that I know. It was nice to have a smaller group to be able connections with everyone. The trip just also made it very easy to connect with people.
