WONDER 6
MULTI-ADVENTURE, UT
March 12-17, 2023
Recap
As part of the WONDER Leadership Program (WLP), in March 2023 9 Notre Dame undergraduate students embarked on a week-long expedition in a canyon in Utah to delve into the core tenets of WONDER: beauty, openness, freedom, and the rediscovery of their humanity through immersion in the wonders of God's creation. During this immersive journey, participants gain valuable leadership and technical skills, enriching their personal and professional growth.
The Leaders
Sophia Frisbie is a senior who studies environmental engineering and lives in Lewis Hall at Notre Dame. She’s from the Grand Rapids area in Michigan, and some of her favorite things to do are play rugby, attend dorm Masses, and thrift shop. Sophia has always loved the outdoors, and this inspires her studies. She attended a WONDER trip in the summer of 2022, and she led the WONDER 8 trip in Colorado in 2023
Elizabeth Ream is from Blythewood, South Carolina. Currently she is working on her Chemical Engineering degree (with Energy Studies minor) at University of Notre Dame. Unsurprisingly, she adores all things outdoors from backpacking to rock climbing to hammocking, and often finds myself daydreaming of her next chance to be out under the sun. She also value the many opportunities to seek out God in the beauty of nature from the little flowers poking up along the trail to the magnificent sunsets, her favorites of which she can only find back home. This past May-July 2023 she embarked on the Camino pilgrimage, walking from St. Jean-Pied-de-Port, France all the way to Santiago, Spain. Elizabeth led WONDER 9
Annmarie Hackworthy is a senior at Notre Dame from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She is studying Aerospace Engineering and loves skiing, camping, and being in the great outdoors. Her favorite part about the WONDER program is how it has challenged her thinking and pushed her to see everyday moments of WONDER and awe. She led her WONDER 10 group with a positive, enriching mindset and attitude.
Jack Thornton is a Junior at the University of Notre Dame, where he is earning a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology. He enjoys thoughtful discussions on religion and ethics, and hopes one day to teach at a major university. He is also a great lover of the outdoors. He grew up backpacking through the Cascade Mountains in his home state of Oregon, and has always enjoyed fishing, kayaking and stargazing. Jack led the Wonder 11 trip in August 2023.
Anna Ranher is a junior at the University of Notre Dame, where she studies theology. She is happy to hear about her friends' favorite books and is always looking for fantasy book recommendations. Her favorite things to do are dance ballet, spend time with siblings, and wander in the woods listening to a movie soundtrack. Hailing from Cincinnati, OH, she grew up kayaking and camping with her family, and she can't wait to spend the summer appreciating such inspirational locations with others!
Anne Myler is a mechanical engineering major at Notre Dame. She enjoys fencing, woodworking, and stargazing. In her free time, she can be found relaxing with a good book or wandering the woods of Northern Michigan. She joined WONDER 8 with Sophia,
Cam Nash is a senior studying Business Analytics and Economics and lives in Alumni Hall at Notre Dame. He is from San Diego, CA and loves playing volleyball and rugby, exploring the outdoors, and learning to love Jesus. Cam has been a backpacking guide in the past and is super excited to experience the wonder and the beauty of creation! He joined WONDER 8 with his brother Ben.
Anna Kierski is a Neuroscience and Behavior Student at the University of Notre Dame. She loves to play piano, guitar, run, hike, box, or just sit and appreciate the beauty in nature that God gave us. She grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina where she fell in love with hiking and the outdoors through her summer camp program. Over the summer, she got to lead three backpacking trips in North Carolina through an outdoor program and can not wait to get back out in nature!
